Duties & Responsibilities

  • Preparation and setup of the test environment by selecting and calibrating the appropriate equipment, ensuring that materials are magnetised before inspections.
  • Application of magnetic field to the material either using a prod, yoke, or coil. Essential for the inspection process to reveal any discontinuities on the surface or just below it.
  • Application of Magnetic Particles using ferrous particles, either dry or suspended in liquid, to scatter across the material’s surface. These particles will cluster around any flaws, making them visible under certain conditions.
  • Inspection and Analysis: Examine the material for indications of defects.
  • Interpret the accumulation of particles to assess the severity and type of flaws present.
  • Accurate documentation and recording of results and findings in reports, ensuring that any defects are logged with recommendations for further action where necessary.
  • Regular maintenance and Inspection of MPI & PT equipment, to ensure accurate results and safe operations
  • Surface Preparation: Cleaning & preparing the surface of the material to remove any contaminants that might interfere with the inspection.
  • Application of liquid Penetrants to test objects, to ensure the liquid seeps into surface-breaking defects through capillary action.
  • Removal of excess penetrant
  • Application of Developers
  • Examination and Assessment: Inspect the developed indications using visible or ultraviolet light, depending on the type of penetrant used. Assess the relevance & seriousness of defects.
  • Reporting: thoroughly document findings, including descriptions of the defects, their locations, and the recommended measures for rectification.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Comply with safety regulations to protect yourself and others from hazards associated with their testing processes.
  • Ensure that quality standards and procedures are maintained as stipulated in the documented procedures and work instructions.
  • Ensure the meaningful, accurate, timeous, and complete information is recorded on all documentation relative to your area of responsibility and the compilation of all performance statistics and reports.
  • Ensure that all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to without compromise.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Certificate in Ultrasonic Flaw Detection Inspection
  • Certificate in Ultrasonic Wall Thickness Inspection
  • Certificate in Magnetic Testing
  • Certificate in Penetrant Testing  
  • Knowledge of ISO BS EN, ASME & AWS D1.1 and API would be advantageous
  • Must be able to provide proof of hours for each discipline
